After days of cold and wet weather, the morning of Saturday 16 July was beautifully clear and sunny – just perfect for our Mandela Day donation drive!
Thank you to all the residents who popped into Streetscapes’ Rugley Road garden to drop off donations of clothing, toiletries and bed linen. Many visitors took the opportunity to buy fresh veggies, farm eggs and raw honey from their Kuils River farm. Thanks also to Zac and Chris from Kingdom Hall across the road who once again allowed us to plug into their electricity. Even Eskom played along for the morning, so that we were able to offer tea and coffee to everyone!
We had the pleasure of meeting a group of students and lecturers from Mercer Univerity, USA, who were here for a few weeks researching Streetscapes’ operational model. Before flying home they presented their recommendations to Streetscapes, and we hear that they will be returning next year to see how things are going.
The garden is looking beautiful – the team has recently replanted the beds and they will soon have fresh veggies ready to pick while you wait. Thandi keeps a small stock of honey at the garden, and she can take orders for eggs as well. They are also happy to take your kitchen scraps to compost (please, no meat or fish or plastic!) and welcome empty egg boxes.
