Won’t helping homeless people with services and basic supplies bring more street people to our area?
This is something that people often worry about but it has not proven to be a particular issue. The team is not handing out refreshments or care packs on a large scale but targeting people on a one-to-one basis.
Chantel and the Streetscapes outreach workers offer coffee and biscuits to the people they sit down with and talk to just as we do in a meeting that is in-person. The care packs would initially be handed to the people who are willing to engage with the team and will be based on need or circumstances.
In the event that new people come into the area because they think Outreach is offering something they want or need, the team will explain the situation and refer them to the appropriate services.
